Successful Commissioning of the Sludge Handling Facility in Kuwait
January 2005 saw the successful commissioning of the sludge treatment facility at KNPC’s Mina Abdulla Refinery.
Construction work on the plant was completed at the end of November 2004, at which point a team of engineers arrived from WOS to carry out the final installation and precommissioning checks on the equipment.
The first deliveries of sludge were received during the Christmas period and stored in the 2 main liquid storage tanks until the WOS engineers returned in the New Year.
During the commissioning period a total of 253m3 of sludge was processed with tests from both the onsite lab and KNPC’s own laboratory confirming all contract specifications were exceeded. The site was handed over at the end of January to the local contractor who will operate the plant for KNPC.
The site was visited in February by a large delegation of senior officials including the chairman of KNPC who officially announced the plant as successfully commissioned.
At present the plant is gradually increasing its throughput as awareness of the facility grows. Other petrochemical companies in the country have expressed an interest in bringing their sludge to the site. The current processing rates of 50m,3 per day are set to rapidly increase.
The senior engineers involved with the construction of the site and the operations superintendent have both expressed their delight in the way the plant is running.
